Introducing Rock Around the Hills

Rock Around the Hills is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in Malvern, Worcestershire, UK. It was formed in 2016 by Richard Jones (Cherry Red Promotions), Stuart Davis (Malvern Theatres) and Clare Gilliam (ex-British Library Sound Archive) with the aim of creating an exhibition, oral history project and on-line community archive celebrating the story of live popular music at Malvern Winter Gardens, from 1961 to 1990.

The rock music performances at the Winter Gardens are part of the rich musical heritage of Malvern, and indeed of the West Midlands. We believe that if a proper record of them is not made now, then in a generation’s time they will be forgotten.

We have compiled a database of bands who played at the Winter Gardens from the early 1960s through to 1990 (500 gigs and counting!). We have also collected memories from people who attended the gigs, or who were involved in them in any way, along with memorabilia in the form of posters, tickets, flyers, fanzines and photographs.
