I saw The Cherokees once or twice and know they appeared on TV wearing full Red Indian gear. They were impressive and Doug Webber [promoter] tried to get them a record deal. Micky Most had already registered the name so The Cherokees had to change their name. I also remember The Wanderers who had a female singer. They became Hell’s Angels. Other bands I remember from the beat contests are The Buddies, The Baskervilles and The Daleks. There was also an all-girl group called The Ravons. No connection with the Kinks. Wonderful days!
